ISRAELI SUPERSTAR DAVID BROZA TO PLAY LONDON’S UNION CHAPEL APRIL 27

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ISRAELI SUPERSTAR DAVID BROZA TO PLAY LONDON’S UNION CHAPEL APRIL 27

David Broza has often been hailed as the Israeli Springsteen, a comparison that belies the range of genres he has explored during a career that has spanned forty years, nearly as many albums and made him a superstar in his homeland. Broza is considered one of the world’s most dynamic and vibrant performers, his charismatic and energetic performances have delighted audiences throughout the world. Fresh from a near-sellout concert at New York’s Town Hall, Broza will bring his much lauded show to Islington’s Union Chapel on April 27th. David Broza’s whirlwind finger picking, flamenco guitar and Arabic percussion and rhythms when added to Western and Hebrew folk, roots, rock and jazz, make for a signature fusion, fashioned by his upbringing in Israel, Spain and England.

His debut album in English “Away From Home” was named as one of the albums of the year by The New York Times when it was released in 1989. Since then, Broza has collaborated with many musicians including, Steve Earle, Shawn Colvin, and Jackson Browne. Broza met Townes Van Zandt only once in Houston at a “Writers in the Round” concert in 1994. However he apparently made quite an impression on the Texas music icon. When he died in 1997, Van Zandt left the Israeli singer-songwriter a shoe box of unreleased poems and lyrics that Broza turned into “Night Dawn: The Unpublished Poetry of Townes Van Zandt,” a 12-track album released in 2009.

David Broza is also known for his commitment and dedication to several humanitarian projects, especially working towards a resolution to Israeli-Palestinian conflict through dialogue, culture, music and tolerance. Now, with a string of multi-platinum albums—in Hebrew, English and Spanish—he continues to push his message. A passionate peace advocate, he has also been named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Broza garnered widespread acclaim for his 2013 album East Jerusalem West Jerusalem, produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Steve Earle and Steve Greenberg, and recorded in its entirety in the Palestinian Sabreen Studio in East Jerusalem. The work, featuring a band of both Israeli and Palestinian musicians, resulted in a beautiful, intimate documentary of the same name. East Jerusalem West Jerusalem is currently streaming on Netflix in the UK. Vanity Fair called the documentary “extraordinary” and added “if no one else is going to try and heal the world, he will.”

“He did more for the Middle East peace process in eight days than Secretary of State John Kerry has done in two years. Is he a diplomat or religious leader? No, he’s a singer-songwriter…..”

Tickets for the Union Chapel concert are available now via their website: store.unionchapel.org.uk.

Preparations are under way for a new best of album set for release this Spring. Many of David Broza’s catalogue albums are available in the UK on iTunes.
