Album Review Artist- Rick Parfitt Album- Over and Out Reviewr- Simon Larkin I remember writing the review for Motorheads Live album ‘Clean the Clock’ that was released after Lemmy’s death and having many of the same emotions whilst listening to it. This one though is a much tougher listen, it’s almost as though Rick knew it was the end of the road. I am gonna be honest, big Scotsman or not, I managed to hold it together, feeling sad but holding it in, until ‘Without You’. At that point the damn bust and a wee tear or three were shed. I defy any true Parfitt fan to hold it together! Self pity out the way,...

Promethium – Faces of War

Promethium – Faces of War I have always wondered how bands structure an album. After they have written all the songs how do you pick the running order and more importantly what should you kick the album off with. In this day and age everyone has the attention span of a goldfish so you need to get it right. In my mind I can see the band sitting down and mutually agreeing we do the “lets rip their face of with a riff” approach and so “Enemies Fate” opens and does exactly that. What an star, powerful, brutal and as bloodthirsty as the Vikings they sing about. Good choice guys as this is probably one of my favourite subjects so stick...

Joe Bonamassa – Brighton Centre Mar20

Joe Bonamassa – Brighton Centre

From the darkness, a glimpse of a gold-top guitar harnessed on a suited, sunglasses-wearing rock star emerged. Bonamassa did something unusual to start his show. The set began with a number of new tracks from his not-yet-released album that’s due out in September. “King Bee Shakedown”, “Evil Mama”, “Just ‘Cause You Can” and “Self Inflicted Wounds” smashed into the world of heavy southern blues. Gospel backing harmonies flew over trademark blues tones which must have made any long term fan of his salivate to hear more of Joe Bonamassa’s newest accomplishment. The songs sat well with the rest of his material and didn’t feel out of...

Bulletboys @ Bannermans, Edinburgh Mar19

Bulletboys @ Bannermans, Edinburgh

Bulletboys @ Bannermans, Edinburgh   A lot of things ran through my head on the journey to this gig, 29 years ago I made the same journey, to see the same band for their first ever gig in Scotland…and all that time later they came back. I was more than a little excited. Due to the 2 hour journey I missed most of Budderside’s set, I got there with about two songs from the end but the Bannerman crowd had already accepted them and even with two songs I could tell why. They play an up tempo, in your face, fun slice of Rock,N,Roll. They love what they do and they play up for the crowd and photographers alike. They were a great...

Each track was carefully selected for a good old headbanging time along with telling a unique story. The band comments: “Each song has its own gravity to the album, and all together create SENSE OF FEAR’s presentation to the world as a band...

H,R,H, AOR Final Day 11th March 2018 Mar15

H,R,H, AOR Final Day 11th March 2018

H,R,H, AOR Final Day 11th March 2018 First band of the day were going to be on stage two, I liked the name of the band before I even saw them, tHE Idol DeaD. Five lads from Leeds: Polly.. lead vocals, K.C… guitar/vocals, Tim… Guitar, Dan…Bass, ..and Nish…Drums. The minute these guys step on the stage you know you’re in for a good time, looking like a cross between the Sex Pistols and the Clash, they list some of their influences as Bowie, Pistols, Dogs Da’mour, N.I.N. and Johnny Cash. They play a mix of punk and metal or as K.C. told me afterwards “Rock n Roll punk with soul”, they definitely have soul: they delivered an explosive...
