U2 Songs of experience + innocence Belfast SSE Arena 27th October ’18 On a cold and wet October night, the trees may be all but stripped bare outside, but inside, a sold out SSE Arena awaits with excitement for U2 to hit the stage. Promoting 2017’s ‘Songs of Experience album, Ireland’s sons have returned to bring their ‘Songs of Experience + Innocence’ tour to Belfast for the first of two sold out nights in the city. It’s been three years since they last played the city, and armed with a new album plus a back catalogue brimming with hits to choose from, you know you are in for a great show. The atmosphere is...

Corrosion of Conformity/Slomatics/Ten Ton Slug Oct28

Corrosion of Conformity/Slomatics/Ten Ton Slug

Live Review: Corrosion of Conformity/Slomatics/Ten Ton Slug 24th October 2018 t It’s October in Belfast which can only mean one thing. It’s freezing outside. Luckily for one little square of Belfast some heavy riffs are about to heat the place up as three bands take the stage in the city. After the release of their 10th studio album, No Cross No Crown, in January of this year Corrosion of Conformity have been touring like it’s going out of fashion. So far this year the band have toured South America, the US and Europe and return to Europe now playing dates comprising the UK and Ireland only. COC are part of the NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana)...

Hunter and the Bear @ The Garage, Glasgow Oct28

Hunter and the Bear @ The Garage, Glasgow

Hunter and the Bear @ The Garage, Glasgow The boys finish up the tour in sheer style to a sold out Glasgow audience(again). I am relatively new to Hunter and the Bear, I went to their King Tuts show earlier this year on a recommendation and having checked out very little of their work but before I left that night I had a vinyl copy of Paper Heart, a huge smile and a memory of a band that rocked my ass off. That was followed quickly with their set at TRNSMT and so tonight takes me to three gigs in less than six months. It is safe to say that I was impressed. They have a huge appeal and to be honest they are a bit far from my usual...

Bad Touch @ The Cathouse, Glasgow Oct28

Bad Touch @ The Cathouse, Glasgow

Bad Touch @ The Cathouse, Glasgow Bad Touch are always one of my highlights of the year but when they bring two amazing support bands it is going to get even better! First up tonight is Daxx & Roxane and it is first time live for me but with a full on recommendation from Glasgow’s Anchor Lane and a NWOCR community going mad for the London based Swizz rockers I knew I would be in for a treat. I could not have expected what came after though as this band are mental. I have came across many unusual things in a photo pit but me having to chug Whisky from a bottle is a first…these boys know how to make friends in Scotland. This...

Heavy Pettin @ The Cathouse, Glasgow Oct28

Heavy Pettin @ The Cathouse, Glasgow

Heavy Pettin @ The Cathouse, Glasgow Tonight was one that I never thought I would see, 30 years in the making saw the band return to Glasgow and after an incredible set at last years Winterstorm Festival I had very high hopes. Support for tonight was Anchor Lane who were brought in very late and with a brand new shiny guitarist to show off so I was looking forward to it. Tonight was the first chance for most of us to get our first sighting of Lawrence O’Brien, now when I say sighting it was more like lets spot his silhouette as due to the lighting technician tonight either being blind or an ex forensic scientist who was looking for blood...

Buster Blood Vessel & Bad Manners Plus support The SKAlectrics at Leamington Assembly 26/10/18. I was especially pleased to be reviewing this gig as my good friends The SKAlectrics from Banbury, Oxfordshire were called in as a support last minute, and they were very excited to be there. They are one of the best 2 Tone and Ska bands around and they play covers of Madness, Specials and the like with an authenticity and lots of energy. The band are led by founding member Neil Parker Drummer, and all-round baby sitter, and also the landlord of the famous Jack Daniels pub The Dolphin with a very impressive black and white 2 Tone...

Bloodstock Open Air Festival 10-12 August 2018 – F...

Bloodstock Open Air Festival 10-12 August 2018 – Festival review. Although we were not at Bloodstock in any official capacity, no media passes, no DSLR cameras but purely as paying punters and fans, we decided to head once again to the hallowed grounds of Catton Hall on Thursday this year, get there a day early, get the tent up, have a beer and chill for the night, however on arrival and even though we purposely didn’t arrive until around 5pm we still had to queue for around 60 minutes to get through security. It wasn’t a bad idea though as the party had already started in the queue anyway, crates of beer were being opened, handed...

Dead Man’s Whiskey Under the Gun This London five piece have been setting the N W O C R scene alight for some time now with an Ep War Machine and playing on Ramblin’ Mans rising stage earlier this year, and a lot of notice from Planet Rock this album was long awaited. Nico Rodgers on...

Warwick/ Johnson @ Audio, Glasgow Oct24

Warwick/ Johnson @ Audio, Glasgow

Warwick/ Johnson @ Audio, Glasgow Ricky and Damon finally return to Glasgow and are rewarded with a sold out show. This is no mean feat tonight as the legendary Glen Hughes is doing his Deep Purple show and just around the corner Aussie nutbags Massive also have a gig. If I am honest any other day of the year I would have been at that Glen Hughes show but with these two boys doing a gig together being few and far between, tied with the fact Damon has just left Black Star Riders I do not expect them to be back in this city for some time. Add to that the last show in this same venue was incredible this was the place for me tonight....

Album Review:Red Dragon Cartel : Patina With New music being released every week its very easy to take things for granted and be somewhat spoilt for choice. But 3 or 4 times a year a release is announced that gets the excitement levels racing one such band for me is the rather splendid “Red...
