Big Wolf Band A Rebel’s Story.

Big Wolf Band A Rebel’s Story.

This Birmingham band have been making a name for themselves on the blues circuit for a while now and their debut album, the first of a trilogy, shows just why, with a retro sound of the 70s and also a more modern feel to many of the songs: this brilliantly produced piece has something for everyone. The nucleus behind the band is the talented guitarist vocalist and song writer Jonathan Earp, but there’s also some great bass work by Mick Jeynes and Deano Bass and tight drumming by Tim Jones, put this together with the keyboards of Paul Brambani and Emma Jonson you have the ingredients of not only a great blues band but also an excellent album. Thirteen songs that deliver all kinds of blues, the sounds of Paul Kossoff, Garry Moore, and Peter Green on the blues rock numbers, but there’s also the old school contemporary feel on there too and on the track Love isnt Free even a Southern rock vibe, there are beautiful guitar solos on Been Here Too Long and Darkest of My Days. The wonderfully moody opening track Heavens Got the Blues to the slow dirty blues feel of the title track A Rebel’s Story: it’s all here, there’s not one dull moment on the album. It ends with the song If I Ever Loved Another Woman which shows that Jonathan can not only sing the husky numbers when he has to but can also a deliver a beautiful voice for the slower laments.

This is a wonderful piece of work by the guys and they seem very comfortable in the studio and the sound is perfect, but if you really want to experience the full Big Wolf Band experience go and see them live: they will not disappoint.
