Halo Tora @ Stereo, Glasgow

Halo Tora @ Stereo, Glasgow Tonight was my first taste of Halo Tora live and the only thought going through my head as I left this grubby, sweaty and totally brilliant venue was “why the hell are these guys not massive? Due to the earlier start I missed most of The Belafonte’s set which was a shame as they looked to be going down a treat. The band class themselves as Alt-rock but that can cover many bases in this day and age but for me they are far more akin to indie. The band now how to play and can work an audience(except for some dodgy one liners and a lot of bromance). I will keep my eyes peeled out for the guys in the future....

Live Review: Real Friends, Columbus, Harbours in Adelaide Aug08

Live Review: Real Friends, Columbus, Harbours in A...

Live Review: Real Friends, Columbus, Harbours in Adelaide Reviewer- Kirsten Grant. It’s a Wednesday night and it’s a five band bill topped by the US of A band Real Friends. We last saw them back in 2015 but we are back again in Adelaide for the, ‘Home Inside my Head’ tour. I’ve sauntered in, unfortunately missing the first two bands on the bill, but just in time to see Harbours take the stage – a stage that used to be fronted by a barrier but is now barrierless – with a nice, friendly crowd already hanging off the stage monitors. Time to get the camera out and make my way through the audience. Harbours are a five-piece from Melbourne...

Mason Hill @ The Garage, Glasgow Aug08

Mason Hill @ The Garage, Glasgow

Mason Hill @ The Garage, Glasgow So how do you actually gauge how a show went if you are a band? Well if any of the bands on this bill looked at social media this morning they must have got a serious idea. I woke up to post after post about Mason Hill, Anchor Lane and Deever, in fact I could probably save myself a couple of hours and just put on here everyones comments, such was the fervour and accolades for this show. The surprise of the night for me was the reception Anchor Lane got as they took to the stage. Was this really the band I only discover last year, a support slot again in the much smaller Audio venue. Very few people had heard...

Penrose: Let’s Go Out (single review)

Penrose: Let’s Go Out (single review) By Dave Simpson  – Aug 4, 2017 Irish indie rock act Penrose began as the brainchild of guitarist/vocalist Darragh McGrane and fellow musician Phil O’Luanaigh back in 2013 before evolving into a quintet that currently comprises McGrane, Mark Bolger, Benji Hayes, Donal Bowens and Caolan Fitzsimons. After unleashing their debut EP, Live for the Dream, to much ado in 2015, the dexterous Dubliners proceeded to put out several more successful singles, winning recognition from the likes of RTE, Today FM and FM104 ahead of a string of shows across the UK and Ireland, including a sell-out performance at...

Nu Blood 2 @ Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow Jul31

Nu Blood 2 @ Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow

Nu Blood 2 @ Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow Take a bow Shock City Promotions, tonight heralds the second incarnation of Nu Blood, a night to promote local talent. Far too often promotion companies are all about the dollar so it is brilliant to see the team at Shock City put a little something back and a welcomed shout out to Hard Rock Cafe who offered reduced rates and fed every band member at the famous restaurant. Now that the kudos is out of the way lets get down to why we we’re here in the first place, the bands and Glasgow never comes up short in this department. There is a wealth of brilliant young bands so it must have been hard to...

INTERVIEW: Hellbastard’s Scruff opens up ahe...

HELLBASTARD –  a name many savour for it stands for in musical  – and political – terms. As they prepare for their show in Belfast’s Voodoo on August 25th we caught up with self-confessed “ranter” Scruff Lewty to find out some more about the ‘Bastard. Having caught their impressive show at Hammerfest earlier this year they proved that they provide a tour de force set, loaded with vigour and virtue – something that seemed to stem from a DIY attitude, however as Scruff explained wasn’t always the case. “We haven’t always taken that approach,” he said. “We have been...
