Airbourne @ 02 Academy, Glasgow

Airbourne @ 02 Academy, Glasgow The ever touring Airbourne are back in Glasgow. You can always expect a spectacle but is tonight one too many shows for me? Before we get to the headliners we have the awesome Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons. I caught this band for the first time last year and tonight this was the main reason I was here. The band impressed me no end that night. To see the legend that is Phil inches from me in a sweaty venue was awesome…and it had one large advantage over tonight, the sound. I do not know if it was Airbourne’s mass of amps that even flooded onto the floor of the photo pit but man was the sound...

Alice Cooper in Glasgow Nov20

Alice Cooper in Glasgow

Alice Cooper @ SSE Hydro, Glasgow Well, Mr Furnier strolls into Glasgow to what is probably the largest capacity he has ever played here. Bringing an incredible show and some very old friends we have either not seen for a long time or ever before. When this show was announced there were a few upturned noses at the support chosen. They are not what you would expect for an Alice show but for me The Tubes were a perfect choice. I was a massive fan back in the day and over the last two years I have been going to their headline shows in this city. With a front man like Fee Waybill you have a showman made in Alice’s image. He may not go for the...

Kane’d/ Stoneface @ Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow Nov19

Kane’d/ Stoneface @ Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow

Kane’d/ Stoneface @ Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow Once again Shock City done Glasgow proud. They put on consistently good shows and tonight was no different. They are a great place to see the new talent that Glasgow has to offer and for that they should be congratulated. In a world that is all about money they are happy to use funds from other events to ensure Glasgow gets it’s fill of new music. Tonight we have the very experienced Stoneface on first. The boys brought their A game and a huge chunk of the crowd which may partly be due to singer Stewart ”twinkle toes” Storrie’s birthday. He also requested no presents and money to be donated...

HRH day 3 Nov19

HRH day 3

HRH XI Day 3 After all the fun and games last night and chatting to the people saying that the capacity was too much in stage one even dangerous at times, I looked at the programme and noticed stage two today were showcasing all the rising stars, interesting to review and probably safer. Missed the first band so started with Western Sand. Formed in 2012 this band have rapidly built a reputation for themselves playing classic southern rock with an energetic and powerful performance. These Bournemouth lads can only go from strength to strength, the second stage was packed out and I had a feeling it was going to be like that all day....

BIGFOOT HARD ROCK CAFE GLASGOW Nov15

BIGFOOT HARD ROCK CAFE GLASGOW

Bigfoot @ The Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow Hot on the heels of their recently released debut album Bigfoot came to Glasgow to reaffirm their dominance in the city. As well as the party band with big hits we are treated to two young and seriously talented local bands with the first of the night Black King Cobra. If you are a regular reader of this site you know how much I rate this band. We are nearly at the end of the year so I have no doubt they will stay my find of 2017. I spoke to a few people who had not seen the band prior to tonight and every one has the same reaction. A band filled with talent, possibly the tallest drummer in the world, a...

HRH DAY 2 Nov15

HRH DAY 2

HRH XI Day 2. Kicked off in Stage 2, Those Damn Crows, local Welsh boys so a big crowd. You could see how popular they were by the reaction when they came on. They play no nonsense rock with an attitude, and I’m sure it wont be long before they play the main stage here. Kingbreaker next, once again on stage 2. A strange mix of eerie grunge, with Australian bassist Tom, Portugese guitarist Gabriel, Finnish drummer Mikko, and the unique voice of Spinky the female lead from Hertfordshire with her star painted eyes showcasing their debut album To The Fire. A mixed reaction from the crowd. Off to catch first band of the day for stage one and I...

HRH 11 Day 1 Nov14

HRH 11 Day 1

HRH 11 Day 1 The official opening ceremony started with the fire dancers from the awards show, and then on to a Midlands five piece with three former members of Black Rose Cadillac who now call themselves Ryders Creed. Being the first band of the event I expected the crowd not to be very big, I was wrong, the place was very full with the Ryders fans. Straight off the bat, confident lead vocalist Ryan Hulme was gyrating and jumping around and the band delivered loud hard rock to all the people, who were enjoying every moment of their set. Winners of the HRH battle of the bands awards they now have a five year two album deal with Off...

HRH AWARDS CEREMONY. Nov13

HRH AWARDS CEREMONY.

HRH AWARDS CEREMONY. This was the first awards ceremony to be held at HRH Pwllhelli, and after all the hard work arranging this the excitement was building up. The guests arriving in their best rock suits and leathers were anxiously awaiting for the artististes to arrive. Each one having their photo taken on the awards wall as they came in as did every guest. The room was buzzing when Michael Schenker arrived taking the time from his latest tour to attend. It kicked off with a blistering start with fire dancers lighting up the stage. And then onto the awards the categories were Angels of rock, Brothers in arms [best label], HRH...

Fozzy/ Harcore Superstar @ The Garage, Glasgow Nov13

Fozzy/ Harcore Superstar @ The Garage, Glasgow

Fozzy/ Harcore Superstar @ The Garage, Glasgow Well, November is here, the month with more clashes than a day at Download and a month where peoples gig money is seriously stretched thin. For that reason alone it is great to see a sell out tonight for this show. There are four bands on the bill tonight which is great but when a venue has a curfew and the doors open at 5.30PM it is not so good. The lower bands will not really get the audience to prove themselves so it can be a hindrance more than anything. Due to the early start I did not get to see the first two bands which is something I hate doing. So first up for me was the...

LIVE REVIEW: Cradle of Filth curdle the light in dark tales of death Nov02

LIVE REVIEW: Cradle of Filth curdle the light in d...

LIVE REVIEW: Cradle of Filth curdle the light in dark tales of death CRADLE of Filth are riding high on the strength of ‘Hammer of the Witches’ and their current release ‘Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay’ – and there is no weakening in live performances as demonstrated in a stunning darkly delightful show in Belfast on the night before Halloween. Indeed, it was a show of grit and showmanship, slick but not too overly polished that it lacked soul. Equally tour support act, Savage Messiah, produced an eye-opening set of thrash that was tight and with enough metal groove to avoid a stilted set...
