Live Review: Real Friends, Columbus, Harbours in Adelaide Reviewer- Kirsten Grant. It’s a Wednesday night and it’s a five band bill topped by the US of A band Real Friends. We last saw them back in 2015 but we are back again in Adelaide for the, ‘Home Inside my Head’ tour. I’ve sauntered in, unfortunately missing the first two bands on the bill, but just in time to see Harbours take the stage – a stage that used to be fronted by a barrier but is now barrierless – with a nice, friendly crowd already hanging off the stage monitors. Time to get the camera out and make my way through the audience. Harbours are a five-piece from Melbourne...

Mason Hill @ The Garage, Glasgow Aug08

Mason Hill @ The Garage, Glasgow

Mason Hill @ The Garage, Glasgow So how do you actually gauge how a show went if you are a band? Well if any of the bands on this bill looked at social media this morning they must have got a serious idea. I woke up to post after post about Mason Hill, Anchor Lane and Deever, in fact I could probably save myself a couple of hours and just put on here everyones comments, such was the fervour and accolades for this show. The surprise of the night for me was the reception Anchor Lane got as they took to the stage. Was this really the band I only discover last year, a support slot again in the much smaller Audio venue. Very few people had heard...

Last Alibi Debut single Vice City Jul14

Last Alibi Debut single Vice City

Last Alibi Debut single Vice City 2017? not according to Glasgow four piece Last Alibi. This bunch of mostly youngsters(sorry Allen, we cannot escape facts) came into my sights last year and instantly had me paying attention. For me they took me back to my favoured decade of rock/metal in the 80s. The band conjour up everything I loved about that era, they manage to squeeze in sleaze, hair, a little dab of NWOBHM and some smoky, bar room blues. Take your pick of 80s bands and you will find a little tinge reflected in this bands music and as much as everyone will probably throw the name The Quireboys at you on the first listen for me...

Stiff Little Fingers: ‘Best Served Loud – Live at the Barrowland’ Review – Craig Grant – Stiff Little Fingers, the SLF or the Rigid Digits are the pioneers of punk rock. In 1977 the world was filled with acts such as the Pistols, the Buzzcocks, the Undertones and The Clash but the SLF stood out. They were angry and in a hurry to share their political slant on a world that was honed from their experience growing up during, ‘The Troubles’. Infectious hooks, no nonsense delivery and a commitment to telling it like it is was the trademark of a SLF show. By the time Suspect Device and Alternative Ulster came on at a gig you had been...
