Zone 52 Festival Held at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton from 9-11 June and run by NB’s Outdoor Events and Blackbush Promotions Northampton. This is the first Zone 52 Festival to be held, the weather was mostly kind although very windy. A great selection of bands, from local unsigned bands to top tribute acts. It was unfortunate that the dates clashed with another huge music festival, as well as local events. Although the audience was small, every band gave their best. Day 1   started off with The Touch, An originals band from Northampton. Rock/Pop & punk Band 2 – Austin Gold 5 piece blues outfit. Band 3 – Rob...

Devilskin lays waste to Ireland Jun12

Devilskin lays waste to Ireland

Devilskin lays waste to Ireland Devilskin are not a band to sit back and take it easy, no, they are constantly pushing barriers and themselves to take their brutally melodic metal to the masses and now it is Ireland’s turn. Having caught Devilskin on every tour in the UK so far it was time for me to make a trip across the water, catch up with some old friends and see what all the fuss is about this place called Limelight. As is usual when I decide to travel to gigs there is always something thrown at me to make things a bit more difficult and today it was watching my plane coming in to land with a smashed windscreen and covered with...

Kreator – Album Re-Issue:

Formed in Essen, Germany in 1982, Kreator are arguably the most influential and successful European thrash metal band ever, like many of their European speed metal brethren, Kreator fused Metallica’s thrash innovations with Venom’s proto-black metal imagery.  June 9 is the announced release date for the upcoming reissues of 1985’s ‘Endless Pain,’ 1986’s ‘Pleasure to Kill,’ 1987’s ‘Terrible Uncertainty’ and 1989’s ‘Extreme Aggression. ‘Endless Pain’ was released in October 1985 by Noise Records. It was a savage debut; its crude thrashing quickly had the underground metal world abuzz with excitement. This album has been known to...

Love Zombies Live @ Abbey Road Studios Jun07

Love Zombies Live @ Abbey Road Studios

Love Zombies Live @ Abbey Road Studios Have you ever done something and instantly knew it was a once in a lifetime moment? Something you know will never be repeated? For me today was that day. Of all the gigs, festivals, backstage, VIP, taking photos and interviewing bands over 35 years and one day can turn it all on its head and everything pales in comparison. The day started very differently, a stormy Scotland had an instant effect on my journey as delays hit everything from trains, planes and everything in-between. The day was definitely sent to test me but after seven hours travelling and almost 500 miles(no mention of that song...

ALBUM REVIEW: Alestorm ask do you drink and have you been fucked by a hammer on No Grave But The Sea ALESTORM have been seen as a joke for many a year by the po-faced intelligentsia who hold their noses at the term Pirate Metal – but on their new album ‘No Grave But The Sea’...

ALBUM REVIEW: Thyrant mix it up on What We Left Behind SOMETIMES something wonderful drops for review; a surprise, a delight that comes at you so far leftfield it bowls you over. With nary a warning Thyrant landed for listening, and it has to be said that this début, ‘What We Left...

ALBUM REVIEW: Selene push on to the next level on ...

WHEN you hear the term ‘symphonic metal’ sometimes there is a tendency to go back to the progenitors of the genre and compare it with newer acts, which is both unfair and unjust. The depth and the breadth of the genre belies the fact that with an ear there is more to be heard, but more than that it is a demanding type of metal to tackle. With just a few years under their belt Selene have managed to make a name for themselves with their début release ‘The Forgotten’ and a couple of eps. Faced with the challenge of a second album the band have knuckled down and produced a solid set of 11-songs. But ‘The Ravages...

EP Review: Figures – ‘Chronos’ Reviewer: Lavender Baj – It feels like there’s another ‘up and coming’ band from Melbourne that’s set to be ‘the next big thing’ every other week, so why should we care about FIGURES, right? Wrong. This 5-piece band from the not-so-sunny city of...

As album titles go Siesmic Shifter has to be as close to spot on as you can get. If this release does not propel the Belfast boys to new heights I will be gobsmacked. Living in Scotland we haven’t had much chance to see this bunch live but luckily I caught them at Wildfire Festival...

Stone Broken, The Garage May26

Stone Broken, The Garage

Stone Broken/ Last Alibi @ The Garage, Glasgow A promise long kept to Glasgow was paid in full and in Style as Stone Broken fulfilled this postponed headline gig. Not only did they put on one hell of a show they made this special for a chosen few people. The support tonight was from local lads Last Alibi. It has been a long time coming since I last saw them support W.A.S.P. legend Chris Holmes last year so I was looking forward to see if they could outdo a show which had me standing to attention than night. Now, with not many shows between then and now you could expect a bit of ring rustiness but that was nowhere to be seen as they...

Miami Monroe @ Audio, Glasgow May23

Miami Monroe @ Audio, Glasgow

Miami Monroe @ Audio, Glasgow Pup Punkers on the way up Miami Monroe headline one of my favourite Glasgow venues and tear the place apart. Although there was a few bands on tonight I only managed to catch the support slot from the brilliant Better Days. This crazy bunch of Geordies played a brilliant set previously with the headliners tonight in the much smaller Broadcast earlier this year so with a bigger crowd and a slightly bigger stage they were determined to make sure you remembered their name(oh…that and the fact they gave everyone and their dog a business card). Although their set was short it was far from sweet. They...

Review: Colibrium – ‘In Balance’ Reviewer: Craig Grant. This review is an opportunity to make things right. This album was released about 12 months ago, so this review isn’t about flogging a new release or meeting a PR’s request. It is about bringing to your attention that there is a...

Live Review – CKY – Wedgewood Rooms Growing up in the nineties and noughties was a golden age for my generation – we had MSN Messenger (RIP), the nu-metal wave and the birth of reality-style prank shows – namely Jackass and CKY. Those adult male pranksters terrorised the streets of...

Live Review – KISS at Hartwall Arena, Helsin...

Live Review – KISS at Hartwall Arena, Helsinki If you are looking for a non-biased live review of KISS at Hartwall Arena in Finland, the I would suggest you navigate away now. With that out of the way, for the rest of you that may follow my reviews it is no secret that I am a huge KISS fan. Unfortunately however due to extenuating circumstances, I have never got around to seeing them live. So when they announced the KISS World tour I was stoked, and immediately began scouring for dated that I would be able to attend – I needed to see this band finally. With friends in Finland, and no UK dates having yet been announced, I took the...

All Time Low have returned to Adelaide May18

All Time Low have returned to Adelaide

Review by Lavender Baj: Pix by Maddi Baj In their first Australian tour since Soundwave 2015, All Time Low have returned to Adelaide for a night that can only be described as pure pop-punk hysteria. Supported by international sensations The Maine and Neck Deep, this triple threat tour has taken Australia by storm over the past week and Adelaide was certainly no exception. Arizona-based alternative rockers, The Maine kicked off the night with an electric performance of their hit track Black Butterflies and Déjà Vu, instantly making it clear that they weren’t just another filler band to kill time before the headliner. Although I hadn’t...
