Album Review: STRIKE...

Album Review: STRIKER: ‘Striker’ Review by Craig Grant. Welcome back to the 1980s, so put down your Atari joystick, pull up your tube socks and pump up your Reebok Hi-Tops because it’s time for the Canadian quartet Striker. Let’s imagine that you’ve never heard of Striker. Well, it’s all...

Miami Monroe @ Broadcast, Glasgow

Miami Monroe @ Broadcast, Glasgow Following on from a storming set supporting Single By Sunday In January, Miami Monroe take to the stage of Broadcast for a headline set before they set off on a whirlwind UK tour. Support tonight was by One Way Street, Better Days and Not Today and they put on a cracking show each and every one. They were all perfectly suited and this meant that the mostly Miami crowd were happy and I am sure the bands picked up some new fans north of the border. I will certainly be looking out for them when they are back up this way. As much as the support bands were a great teaser tonight was all about Miami...

Sittingbourne football club

HYTHE TOWN – AWAY / RYMAN LEAGUE DIV 1 SOUTH FINAL SCORE: HYTHE TOWN 2 SITTINGBOURNE 1 PLAYED 25TH FEBRUARY 2017 Sittingbourne rallied hard, and they rallied well, but it was all a bit too late as Hythe Town held on for the win they desperately wanted in their challenge for a play-off place. The fact that goalkeeper Simon Overland was by far Sittingbourne’s best player tells its own story,  as not only was he their best but he was also their busiest much of the time. Hythe dominated  a lot of the game in their bid for revenge for a 4-0 defeat at Sittingbourne earlier in the season, but when the Brickies got at them in the final stages...

Warrior Soul/ Anchor Lane @ The Bungalow, Paisley Feb27

Warrior Soul/ Anchor Lane @ The Bungalow, Paisley

Warrior Soul/ Anchor Lane @ The Bungalow, Paisley The original angry man of metal returns to the UK and plays a more intimate show just outside Glasgow. Having been a fan from the very beginning I was looking forward to this one. Before I go on to talk about either band tonight I have to comment on the venue. This was my first visit to The Bungalow in Paisley and with just a 10 minute journey from Glasgow it will not be the last. Just a short walk from the train station it is still secluded enough to have the volume shaking the walls. They have a great back line and for the size of the place and some brilliant lighting. I would...

Marco Mendoza\ Kane’d Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow

Marco Mendoza\ Kane’d Hard Rock Cafe, Glasgow As bass players go Marco Mendoza has to be up there with a title like living legend. He has done his thing with some of the biggest and best bands and with some time off from the day job with the amazing Dead Daisies he has decided to do a run of solo dates in the UK. This venue can be a strange one, the lights are awful and for my liking there are far too many seats spread about which could have caused tonight’s support band Kane’d some problems as most punters bums were firmly seated. I can only take it most people had never heard of or seen this band live. If they had, like me they...

Colour of Noise: Stark Reality Tour May 2017

Hard Truths from Colour of Noise Colour of Noise: Stark Reality Tour May 2017   “As you go through life, you’ve got to see the valleys as well as the peaks.” Neil Young.   Colour of Noise’s ‘Stark Reality’ tour has proved to be aptly-named, having been dogged by problems, which caused delay and even threatened the band’s survival,  but it’s going ahead.   “We were beginning to suspect this tour was cursed!” guitarist Bruce John Dickinson explains, “At the start of 2016 (following the Toseland and Dead Daisies tours), we were on a high, but stark reality soon gave us...

Album Review: Jungle...

Reviewer: Craig Grant. Jungle City is a three piece Adelaide based band that released their third album, ‘Jungle City III’, at the end of 2016. This has come after the unsurprisingly titled, ‘Jungle City II’ and ‘Jungle City I’, but, thankfully, more thought has gone into the music than the...

Bonafide – Flames

Bonafide – Flames Swedish band Bonafide are celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2017, and what better way is there to launch proceedings by releasing a new album and then embarking on a 14-date UK tour? They have set themselves a grueling target of 14 shows over two weeks all across the UK – our great island chosen by them for this tour because of the affinity they feel with our culture of beer, curry and the underground roots of rock music. Their new album ‘Flames’ will be released on Off Yer Rocka Recordings, and is something a bit different for Bonafide, having a gospel choir from South Sweden singing on a few songs,...

HRH METAL BIRMINGHAM Feb13

HRH METAL BIRMINGHAM

Today finds me in Birmingham,  to cover one day of the inaugural HRH Metal, being held at The O2 Academy just by the city centre.  It’s a cold dank day which actually transfers from the outside in as far as the temperature is concerned.  Once inside The O2, I’m met with high spirits and everyone up for a good time. It’s nearly a pity this didn’t start yesterday,  such is the spirit of the place. For HRHM,  all three rooms have been made available, so we have a main stage of course,  Room 2 called… Room 2. and then the third room subtitled “The Best of Brum,” dedicated to the local bands here....

LIVE REVIEW: Heat One of Metal2TheMasses kicks off the battle for a Bloodstock slot Feb12

LIVE REVIEW: Heat One of Metal2TheMasses kicks off...

LIVE REVIEW: Heat One of Metal2TheMasses kicks off the battle for a Bloodstock slot YOU know when Metal2TheMasses is underway when ‘real’ adults appear in Limelight2. Not, that everyone who normally attends isn’t above the statutory admittance age – it’s just that these are responsible adults. Also known as parents of band members. Seeing these responsible adults gives one a sense of assurance that their offspring’s efforts to learn a new guitar line, drum fill of bass run, not to mention shipping them to rehearsals has been worth the effort to see their sprogs enter into the fray for a cherished spot at...

DOYLE WOLFGANG VON FRANKENSTEIN’S TOUR

BIRMINGHAM, UK – MAMA ROUX DOYLE WOLFGANG VON FRANKENSTEIN’S TOUR ‹ › × × Previous Next Flickr Album Gallery Powered By: Weblizar Doyle @ Glasgow,Audio Doyle @ Audio, Glasgow Misfits monster Doyle hits the Uk for his first ever solo tour over here so as you can imagine there was a huge amount of interest and some really annoying fans. Before we got to the legend himself we had Manchester based band The Dead X111 and boy did they put in a storming set. I have caught this band live a few times in this city and they never fail to provide anything less than a top class show. The boys are doing the full UK tour so if you get...

Courtesans – Better ...

Courtesans – Better Safe than Sober Courtesans may not yet be a name on the vista of rock music, but I am certain it soon will be. An all female band hailing from London, they formed in 2012 and together have blended their strong images and personalities to form a haunting mix of dark...

Anchor Lane – New Beginning So Rock world I give you Anchor Lane, a young and highly talented three piece from Glasgow. New Beginning is classed as their debut(although it isn’t really) but let’s take it at its merits and treat it as such. I have been avidly awaiting this release since I saw...

Glenn Hughes/ Stone Broken @ The Garage Glasgow Jan29

Glenn Hughes/ Stone Broken @ The Garage Glasgow

Glenn Hughes/ Stone Broken @ The Garage Glasgow It is a huge night in Glasgow for gigs, there are 4 top class acts playing with probably the biggest the farewell from Black Sabbath. That was always going to hit numbers tonight especially as this was the rescheduled gig from last year. Tonight was a matter of allegiances for me, I have done many Sabbath gigs and I was one of those idiots who went to the last farewell tour. No, this was an easy choice, Glenn always performs at the top of his game and with a support as good as Stone Broken there was no question where I would end up. Are there still people out there who do not know how fucking...

Nashville Pussy The Crauford Arms in Milton Keynes Jan28

Nashville Pussy The Crauford Arms in Milton Keynes

So tonight I’m photographing at The Crauford Arms in Milton Keynes. Is actually a decent sized pub quite a few punters in already so looks as though the gig is going to be quite substantial? I’m really looking forward to tonight. First up we have Long John and The Killer Blues Collective, followed by followed by Desert Storm, and ending the night in from The US, the headliner act, the aptly named Nashville Pussy who I’m really quite looking forward to hearing. It’s my first night down at Crauford arms and it looks as though it might become a regular as I have such a good lineup including the Lioness Amy Winehouse...

Cerebral scar gig at the king billy rock bar in Northampton Jan28

Cerebral scar gig at the king billy rock bar in No...

Cerebral scar gig at the king billy rock bar in Northampton. This is the busiest I’ve seen the king billy, and Friday night, end of the month, it should be. On the bill tonight, a launch party for Northampton band Cerebral Scar, who are joined by Haema and Iron Grave. The lighting in The King Billy is challenging, and the stage is tucked away into a corner. Indeed this is the second time I’ve photographed here. The rumours of a new improved stage and lighting are yet to come to fruition. That said, the following here is loyal and the punters really enjoy this venue where many perform, so I fiddle around with the camera settings,...

Joanne Shaw Taylor/ Broken Witt Rebels @ 02 ABC Glasgow Jan27

Joanne Shaw Taylor/ Broken Witt Rebels @ 02 ABC Gl...

Joanne Shaw Taylor/ Broken Witt Rebels @ 02 ABC Glasgow The Joanne Shaw Taylor bandwagon rolls into Glasgow. The woman is finally getting the attention she deserves as the venue this year is much bigger, the crowd much rowdier and the place is packed for what was to be an amazing set by both bands. After missing them numerous times last year I finally got to see the Broken Witt Rebels take to a stage and ignite an audience. After their set that night I swore I would not miss them again in this city and so I was there front and centre and glad that there was not much time between gigs. This band stands out in a pot of talent that is...

Single By Sunday/ Miami Monroe/ Altered Sky @ 02 ABC Glasgow Well it is first gig of the year time and if you like your Pop/Punk there is no better place to be than Glasgow. This is a showcase for Scottish bands all on the one stage and it drew in old and young alike. First up were Altered Sky who finished the year off in style with an amazing headliner set at the nearby Garage. It Was a fitting end to a brilliant year for the band who are turning heads and finally getting some breaks. The band brought a huge number of their own fans tonight who just wanted to see them irrespective of the length of their set being third from last on....

Silver Dust – Homecoming at Le Royal, Tavannes CH Jan20

Silver Dust – Homecoming at Le Royal, Tavannes CH...

Silver Dust – Homecoming at Le Royal, Tavannes CH This was the first time I had seen the full show from Silver Dust with complete theatrics – as it was cut down so much for the European tour with Lordi – so it seems only fitting to go to their home country of Switzerland to see the whole she-bang. And it could not have been more perfect. During the tour with Lordi, Silver Dust immediately caught my attention – along with many other peoples’ attention too. Even with their abridged theatrical show, they were still able to blow the doors and roofs off of each venue they attended in the UK, every show I was present at. The...

Geoff Tate Acoustic @ The Cathouse Glasgow Jan13

Geoff Tate Acoustic @ The Cathouse Glasgow

Geoff Tate Acoustic @ The Cathouse Glasgow At the tail end of 2016 as everyone was frantically purchasing tickets for all the big shows this year I was impatiently pacing back and forth waiting for this gig. The moment it was announced it was in my diary as sometimes you just know how good a show you are going to get. On the night things were running a bit behind schedule and although this gave punters a chance to hear the sound check it unfortunately dug into the time allocated to support The Mark Daly Band. This was a real shame as the band played out of their skin with their rocked up Country/ Indie acoustic sounds. For a band...

Annihilator – Triple Threat

Annihilator – Triple Threat If you are into thrash metal, then you would have undoubtedly heard of Annihilator. They are one of Canada’s ‘Big 4’ thrash metal bands; having had a career spanning from 1984, with the legendary ‘Alice in Hell’ album in 1989, up to 2015’s ‘Suicide Society’. They have just completed a European tour (which I unfortunately missed) and are now currently on a US tour, before setting to work on their sixteenth studio album. ‘Triple Threat’ is their latest compilation album to tantalise the ears in the meanwhile, which will be released on January 27th...
